The purpose is orientation, not persuasion

The workshop is designed to help people who are considering separation or divorce understand the kinds of decisions ahead before assuming there is only one route. It separates the California legal sequence from the process used to gather information, receive advice, negotiate, and make decisions.

A useful way to think about it

The workshop is closer to an orientation than a consultation. You leave with a framework and vocabulary for future conversations—not a personal case assessment.

Three professional perspectives, one connected overview

    Legal orientation

    A family-law professional explains the broad California case sequence, common decision points, and the difference between general information and advice about an individual case.

  2. 02

    Financial orientation

    A financial professional introduces the kinds of information and decisions that commonly arise around income, expenses, property, debt, support, and planning for two households.

    Family and communication orientation

    A mental-health professional discusses the family transition, communication, and considerations that may matter when children or an ongoing co-parenting relationship are involved.

    Process options

    Presenters describe self-management, traditional representation, mediation, and collaborative divorce as different ways to organize support and decision-making.

The point is not to make every option sound identical. It is to explain how responsibility, professional support, negotiation, and court involvement may be organized differently.

What the three-hour workshop is like

  • Live and online. Registration and access instructions are provided through Eventbrite.
  • Educational. Presenters speak to the group rather than meeting privately with individual attendees.
  • Question-friendly. General questions may be addressed, but attendees should not share confidential facts or expect advice about a personal case.
  • No decision required. You do not need to be certain about divorce or ready to select a process before attending.

Important limits

The workshop cannot evaluate your individual situation

Presenters do not create an attorney-client, financial-client, or therapist-client relationship with attendees. The workshop cannot tell you whether to file, what an appropriate settlement would be, whether urgent orders are needed, or whether a particular process is safe or suitable for your family.

Urgent or safety-related questions need individual help

If there may be abuse, coercive control, hidden or threatened assets, child-safety concerns, an immediate deadline, or a need for court orders, seek timely guidance from an appropriate qualified professional or service. A general workshop is not a substitute for that assessment.

The workshop may be useful if you are considering separation, have recently begun a case, are trying to understand the language professionals use, or would simply like a neutral overview before speaking with an attorney, mediator, financial professional, or therapist.
